LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION

Set in an 18th century building overlooking Lisbon’s historical centre and the river tejo, the hotel has an absolutely unbeatable location that sets it apart from all other hotels.
More then its pristine service and charming interiors, we wanted to focus on its unique location: the heart of lisbon, with all its bustling activity, restaurants, stores and historical flair, where everything happens.
In essence: WHERE LISBON IS
So we recreated the historical city’s grid, playfully including iconic elements that make part of Lisbon’s imaginary and personality.

MOTIONS

To keep everybody informed about Bairro Alto Hotel during the different stages of its renewal and expansion, we recreated the whole area in several animated 3D movies.
It was great fun seeing the river, the surrounding streets and buildings coming to life.

KEEPING IN TOUCH

Everyone, from clients to media, should be surprised when getting in touch with Bairro Alto Hotel’s communication.
From “Le box”, a skilfully handcrafted mahogany box displaying the hotel’s expansion, carefully assembled presskits to the invitations and objects for several events, everything is created in order to create a maximum of awareness and reflect the new Bairro Alto Hotel.

CONCEPT

Medical laboratories are all about science, about research, knowledge and
the health of the patient.
We wanted the intervention to be part of the architecture. telling the history of medicine since antiquity, combining art with architecture.
Taking advantage of the luminosity that came through the glass roof and windows, we worked with layers of acrylic plates, metals and print, mixed with king size laboratory material.
The result is a mix of materials with changing reflections and shadows.

OPORTO

Over 1.300 sq. ft. of window display in Oporto’s main avenue.
We worked the actual glass components in king size version, creating a huge laboratory trajectory.
During the night leds inside the test tubes and flasks brings the whole composition to life.

BETWEEN is about the forms we acquire throughout life. We find ourselves between the beginning and the end, never knowing where we really are. Meanwhile we feel textures, make patterns, see shapes and live flavors.

CONCEPT

THE ALCHEMIST
We came up with the idea of an alchemist roaming through nature, collecting every sort of elements into a box to transform them into extravagant fabrics.
We had to collect sticks, stones, plants, snails for several days and miles.
We were left with bruises, moskito bites and this catalogue.

Every man made object can be traced to nature.

CONCEPT

Over 150 years ago, the year was 1868, notorious lisbon dandy Agusto Macieira saved Madame Carlota single-handedly from her burning salon in Lisbon.
Overwhelmed by his own deed, he then and there decided to found the first volunteer firefighter corporation in
Europe. Or so goes the story.
Inspired by illustrations of the time, we spinned our tale further creating nonsensical characters and situations. Perfect for 18.68 clients to look at them over a perfect cocktail. Cheers.

CONCEPT

Bairro Alto is 500 plus years old. Since then it has been the place of choice for the great Portuguese geniuses to “drink” their inspiration that translates in all their work. It is an honor for us to to be a part of the local history of this place that we cherish so much.
The concept we developed for this project is an homage to all the artists that drinked, lived and died here. It is to the ones we admire.
It is an homage to Bairro Alto. The soul of Lisbon.

BOHEMIAN MANIFEST

Bohemian:
a person who is interested in artistic and unusual things, for example art, music, or literature, and lives in an informal way that ignores the usually accepted ways of behaving.

Manifesto:
Weapon used by artists to present their principles and intentions.
It represents irreverence, the breaking of a cycle, the beginning of a new chain.

For all that happened and will happen in Bairro Alto.

How the manifest is manifested:

Through the subversion of traditional and characteristic elements of Lisbon.
Applying, with a sense of humor, its reinterpretation within the irreverence and originality of these artists.


The Bohemian manifesto is a transversal element to the personalities that have marked our history and elevated our culture.
To whom we owe so much.
To those who created eternal works, developed between each glass of wine.

BRIEFING

We were asked to do something disruptive but elegant, cool but sophisticated. Something unique with it's own personality. Thestudio presented the concept: Bohemian Manifest. Bairro Alto neighborhood, in Lisbon, is more than 500 years old. Known for it's bohemian night life, since early times. We focused on the most notorious bohemian Portuguese artists that lived and died there throughout history. With Thestudio's approach and design language.

Challenges:

Creating and producing big dimensions art installations for the venue. Designing and producing exterior and interior furniture. Finding the tree, that was cut 40 years ago, for the 14 meters long bar counter. The huge marble block for the 9 meters kitchen counter. All different suppliers to manage.

CONCEPT

The Sahel Desert Essence is the evocative theme used to tell the story of Promemoria, and so the most beautiful, most perfect object is always that of tomorrow. Just like the ever-transforming desert dunes, which never cease to amaze as they change.

The indefinable, relentless flowing of time concerns us all. But it is a theme that is of particular interest to Promemoria , which was founded on a commitment to improve the future through a remembrance of the past, creating furniture that defies labelling as classics or contemporary pieces, that eschews fads: that conveys to every individual a personal vision of the past, evoking familiar and intimate memories, with sensations that are unique for each of us – thanks also to personalised features- but immediately recognisable to everyone.

Sahel is a gift to time, a breath of peace in this challenging time we are living, a breath that will allow life back to nature’s rhythm and pureness.

Promemoria is synonymous with refined hands that, like the winds of the Desert, shape incredible, imaginative designs, with the help of creatives from around the world. Like worldly divinities bringing forth ideas, they develop new creations intended for the spaces where we spend our lives. This is the magic of Promemoria , like the magic of the Desert. A humanism that goes back one hundred years and that creates, influences and enraptures.

Thestudio is a workshop where many hands act as living, intelligent tools, moving with passion and experience around different ideas in the tireless pursuit of the essence of all that is beautiful, tasteful and great.

CONCEPT

IF YOU CAN’T TAKE THEM TO THE DESERT, TAKE THE DESERT TO THEM

Based on the collection’s concept “Desert Fredo / Sahel”, BottegaGhianda, affiliated with Promemoria, dives into the colours, textures and ambience of the desert.
We decided to translate the concept literally by trucking 18 tonnes of coloured desert sand to the Salone internazionale del Mobile in Milano, plunging the showrooms, the catalogues and visitors in meter high sand dunes.

The Salone Internazionale del Mobile is a hub of experimentation and cross-pollination, a place for interface and fresh opportunities for reflection on the world of design and planning.
